Institutional data: music magazine

NME is a top publishing weekly music magazine; they look at all types of music but mainly rock. It includes mainly interviews of new music bands and music writing and photography. They are well known for discovering new music first and like fresh new bands, they also give some of their money they earn to charity. The NME is published every Wednesdays and is on sale for £2.50.

NME has been running since 1952 which is impressive for a music magazine because they normally end in 3-4 years after publishing. NMEs target audience is for mainly males with a percentage of 73% males and 27% females, with the average age range of around 25. The class for this magazine is 73% of ABC1, which is more round the higher class because it is an expensive, well known magazine. NME has worked out what their target audience likes and are into and have took that and added it into their magazine that’s why they are doing well because they are interested in the readers. They worked out that:
• 80% of NME readers feel that music is an important part of their lives
• 79% of NME readers like to listen to new bands
• 63% specially choose to listen to indie/guitar bands
• 49% specially choose to listen to live bands in studio
• 52% are interested in taking a musical course/qualification
• 36% are thinking of buying a musical instrument in the year
