Magazine title font ideas

'Ecstasy' was a name idea for my magazine however i didn't think it went well with my target audience so in the end i named my magazine 'ROUGE' which is better because it sounds more to do with fashion and suits my target audience. I have made my font ideas look different and make it stand out from the rest off the magazine. The font i am going to use is the bottom of the left side font 'REBOARD' because it gives it a edgy and exciting look.

Breakdown of cast, props, setting, location report for magazine

My pictures I will take for my magazine will relate to my target audience, they will be bright, flowery to attract the younger audience.

For my front cover picture I will take for my music magazine will be the picture of my friend in quite revelling clothing and make it look like she is famous by looking confident. Her makeup will be bright colours to make her face stand out and look fashionable. I will take different types of photos so I can have a selection of what to pick from. Some of the props I will use will be an iPod to show it is a music magazine, a big flower to show it is for the younger age to make it look pretty, vintage sunglasses to make it look a fashionable magazine. The setting and the location will be with a plain white background to show the image can blend onto the page nicely and to make it look professional and look like she is a proper model and in a proper studio is also makes it look simple and not too much and to make the person stand out more with no background.

For my contents page I will add more pictures of different people to show a variety and show both the topics of fashion and music. The location and setting could still be with a plain background to make the pictures stand out however there could be some with a different background with young girls laughing such as a snowy background to show fun and happiness. The props they will use won’t matter as much as the front cover but I doubt I will use any props and just show people having fun with their friends or serious modelling pictures to show the fashion side again.

For my 2 page spread feature article I will take some pictures of a group of girls looking like a girl band, they will dress formal and going out clothes to show they are serious, I will get them to wear near the same colour clothing to make it look serious and not messy. I will take some serious modelling picture of them posing like a girl group and like the girl band ‘the Saturdays’ and I will take some of them laughing together to show they are close friends. This will be for the interview about them. The setting and location will be in a normal room with them being normal to show they aren’t big and are normal people trying to get a music career.

Front cover picture ideas:

Initial ideas for your own music magazine

For my music magazine the target audience is going to be for teenage girls to younger adults around the age 15-25 with a middle class background. My magazine is going to be a mix between music and fashion topics to attract the younger girls, the colours are going to be bright and stick with 2 or 3 colours so it doesn’t look messy. The pictures are going to be of young girls the same age as the target audiences so they can relate to the magazine. My magazine will be related to pop music to attract the younger girls because that’s the type of music they enjoy the most.

The front cover is going to be simple with one main picture of a girl with text around the picture I have taken myself to show it is like a normal magazine.

For the contents page I will have a few more pictures inside to make it stand out when you open the page, I will stick to the colours I chose for the front cover throughout the magazine to show there is a colour scheme and to make it look neat. I will add the page numbers bigger than the page information because through the other magazines I looked at they look good.

For my 2 page spread I will have a new pop girl band trying to get into the charts and start their music up which would attract the younger girls, there will be a big picture of them and an interview underneath telling everyone what they are like and there style etc. The colours will also be the same on this page however there could be a few more colours to show a change and more colourful and brighter to go with the target audience.

Full analysis of one music magazine

The magazine is made for females and is more for females than males. The class for this magazine is set at 75% ABC1 and 39% of AB it is more for the higher class because the cost of the magazine is £3.50 and is a high amount of money for a magazine. Also they worked out that the average age range for this magazine is 30. They have worked out what the readers enjoy and how they think they look and how long they spend on their appearance, they worked out that:
•79% look after their appearance & image
•78% think it’s important to look well dressed
•More than twice as likely to spend a lot on clothes, compared to other women
•73% more likely to wear a valuable watch
So this is what they will add into the magazine if this is what they found out about their target audience readers.

InStyle magazine is a well-known magazine, in this magazine there are many adverts and selling products to promote them that all related to the style of the magazine, they do this because InStyle magazine sells thousands of copies a month and will have more chance of the readers looking at them. This magazine is aimed for females so the products that will be advertised will be products a female would buy, and by the facts they found out about their target audience they will add products that will look after their appearance because 79%of people do. The products I found that has been advertised in this magazine was perfume, Gucci watches, Chanel, D&G, makeup, hair products, clothes, cars, jewellery, shoes, face cream. These are products that females would mostly buy, all of the products are expensive brands they added this into this magazine because this magazine is for higher class people. Half of the magazine was added my adverts this is for my promotion and over 60% of the adverts were to do with branded perfume.

On the front cover of the magazine is has 2 main colours black and white they done this to make it look sophisticated and follow the class range of higher class, it makes it look professional and neat. They have made the title stand out by the background of it, they have kept the title white but the background of the title is sparkly black sequence which you would find on clothing, this shows it is to do with fashion and still makes the title stand out because the rest of the background if plain white. The title is covered by the image of the girls head but you can still work out the title because it is so well known. There is one mid shot image on the right hand side and she is also following the theme colour by wearing a white elegant dress with her hair up and looks very business-like with diamonds again this is following the class gender.

On the contents of the magazine they have the same lady and the same layout as the front page by having the image on the right hand side of the however her hair is done to show she is more relaxed and having fun. The colours on this page are red, black and white with the background still white. They have added a red colour to make it more colourful but not making it messy by adding too many colours and still give it the elegant professional look. The page numbers are on the left had side and are bigger and the information next to it to make the pages stand out.

Inside on a 2 page spread page they have an interview on Christina Aguilera about her starting to make music again and coming back into the charts. They have covered the whole two pages with the image and has left some information right at the bottom of the page, this is to make her stand out more than the information, she is posing on a bed writing down lyrics, this shows she is into her music and gives it a sexy side to make it interesting. They have made the quotes bigger what they want to stand out what she says such as “I love music” this is to make the readers see what she loves about it and what she has planned.

Institutional data: music magazine

NME is a top publishing weekly music magazine; they look at all types of music but mainly rock. It includes mainly interviews of new music bands and music writing and photography. They are well known for discovering new music first and like fresh new bands, they also give some of their money they earn to charity. The NME is published every Wednesdays and is on sale for £2.50.

NME has been running since 1952 which is impressive for a music magazine because they normally end in 3-4 years after publishing. NMEs target audience is for mainly males with a percentage of 73% males and 27% females, with the average age range of around 25. The class for this magazine is 73% of ABC1, which is more round the higher class because it is an expensive, well known magazine. NME has worked out what their target audience likes and are into and have took that and added it into their magazine that’s why they are doing well because they are interested in the readers. Institutional data: Overview of Industry

For an overview of the magazine industry IPC media is the biggest company to publish any type of magazines; it produces over 85 brands of magazines. IPC reaches almost two thirds of women and 44% of men in the UK and altogether it is round about 27 million adults in the UK, also the online brands reaches to 20 million users every month.
The IPC Company offers a magazine for everyone however they mainly focus on three audiences: men, mass market women and upmarket woman.

For the target audience of men IPC produces magazine brands which will appeal to them such as: country life, horse & hound, rugby world and decanter for lifestyle brand which they will enjoy for their hobbies interests however they also produce nuts, mouse breaker and NME which is mainly targeted for men.

For the mass market woman target audience they produce famous women’s weeklies and gossip magazine to attract them such as: Look, Now, Chat and Woman. These magazines attract the mass market woman because they are cheap, affordable, girl, gossip magazines which most women would want to read about. They also produce TV entertainment brand including: What’s on TV, TV Times and TV & satellite week. They chose these magazines for these women because a stereotypical woman would be at home watching TV and wants to know what is on the TV.

For the upmarket woman they have more luxury fashion brands of magazines these are different to the mass marker woman types of magazines because the upmarket women have more money to spend and are more expensive than the other magazines. Some of the magazines they include are: Marie Claire and InStyle, lifestyle brands such as: woman&home and essentials, and also home interest brands such as: ideal home, living etc and housetohome. These magazines are more expensive than any other magazines.

Analysis of two feature articles

This 2 page spread article is for males and the target audience is for middle aged people to the age 25-35, I think this because older males enjoy motorbikes more than anyone else would. The social class for this is middle and working class because it is more of an interest and a hobby.

This article looks more professional than the other article because it is set out more and has more pictures and more information. Overall there are 4 pictures which are too much for an article, for my article I am going to use about 1 or 2 pictures to make it look set out well. The article is set out like a newspaper by adding lots of columns on the page and it is a magazine this gives the effect of more professional and more interesting for the target audience. However there are too many columns and too much information to read about motorbikes, I will keep my information short so it doesn’t put off any readers. It look boring with too much writing and not many bright colours, for example I would change the title to a bright colour to make it stand out but the title is white and blends into the background colour and doesn’t make it as noticeable.

music journalism practice, charlie and the chocolate factory

Heat magazine
This film has created a new version of the Charlie and the chocolate factory and I find it great! It’s interesting and great for the family. Johnny Depp makes the film by his humour and by getting very into his character, he plays the part well. All of the characters have been made more snobby than the original film. The setting and the effects have been used well when the 4 unordinary children walk around the factory. The stuff they find is much unexpected and has a different story twist to the first one by exploring ‘willy wonkas’ childhood.

However the things I think that can be improved are the oompa loompas, or whatever they look like. The first film made the oompa loompas cute, colourful and nice now the new oompa loompas are ugly and mean! This film is a great feel good film with a comedy twist it gives us all a lesson to not be spoilt and not take things for granted (which most of us need for a movie night in) by enjoying the wackiness and imaginative world of the chocolate factory! The rating for this fantastic film is a high 8 out of 10.
Guardian newspaper
This ‘so called’ new version of the Charlie and the chocolate factory is outrageous. The new version has taken out all the simple and creative ideas and has turned them horribly wrong by taking everything over the top. The Charlie and the chocolate factory are supposed to be a feel good, nice, friendly film which the whole family can enjoy. Now it is all about humour and has mocked the old version. They should have left the old version because nothing can top the original and classy version. There is no class and is just for children to enjoy when it should be for the whole family to relate to like the old version by the nice songs, now the songs are up tempo to satisfy the younger audience.

However besides the negative comments, I can say that some qualities of this film are positive. For example Johnny Depp is the best part of this film by making it interesting and how he plays a good role for his character by getting to know Willy Wonka and his background on how he made the factory and his childhood background was. The rating for this film is 3 out of 10.

contents practice analysis

This contents page is from the ‘Q’ magazine, the contents page is set out the same throughout the magazine and the main colour for this magazine is red, black and white. There is 1 main image which covers up half the page, the image is at a long shot to show there fashion and style and who they are.
The writing goes down the left hand side to make it look neat and professional.
They make the page packed with information about the magazine and pages that will be inside to attract the readers and to see what is inside the magazine. There are subtitles under the page numbers to see the sections they cover in the magazine.

There are page numbers next to each page option to show how to find the page. There is a review column in the bottom right corner which has another longshot image. The ‘Q’ logo is on the contents page twice to show that it is from the magazine and follows a theme throughout.

This contents page is going to the same style as my music magazine will be that I am going to make. I like this contents page because the target audience is clearly for young adults around the age 15-25 for girls because it had bright pink colours which attract girls more. However I don’t like how this contents page has used too many pictures on the page (7 in total), it makes the page look messy and scattered about. If I added pictures on a contents page I would add about 2 pictures for the page to make it have more information. This contents page has a pink section on the left to make the page more colourful and interesting.

front cover practice analysis

The main picture is in the center of the page and is in a mid-shot. The image overlaps the head title because it is a well-known magazine and makes the image stand out. The colour theme is black and red to make it look formal and simple. The person is wearing a bright yellow dress to make the picture stand out because it is a bright colour and is a different colour to the colour theme. The target audience for this magazine is for teenagers around the age of 14-20. I think this because it has a teenager on the front cover and it looks very cheesy and the layout isn’t as formal as a high class magazine would be. The class for this magazine would be round about middle class because it looks affordable and everyday topics such as fashion most people would be interested. The gender aimed for this magazine would be mostly females because it is more ‘girly’ by talking about fashion, bra sizes, hair styles, kissing ways and questions about boys, which most boys wouldn’t be attracted to.

They have added small pictures on the bottom right hand corner to show what sort of clothes and fashion you will see inside the magazine, to attract people who like clothes and fashion. The clothes have sale signs next to the pictures to attract the readers more by seeing what’s on sale and to find a bargain which falls back into the middle class. There is also a “2 mags for price of 1” on the magazine at the top left corner this is again to do with a bargain magazine and the target audience like to find cheap items so it attracts them to buy more magazines. The target audience (teenagers) don’t have a lot of money as most people would because they go to school or educate themselves and most of them don’t have a full time job like adults would so the magazine has to add bargains to the front cover to attract them and make them buy it.

My music magazine will be like this magazine, I will be aiming it to be cheesy, smiley, bright colours, fashion, and teenage celebrities such as the person on the front cover so the target audience can relate to the magazine. Also the target audience can relate to the celebrity because it has a quote on the side of the magazine saying that “boys haven’t always been nice to me” this makes the readers want to buy the magazine to see what the boys done to her, so they put this on the front to make it look like an interesting magazine.

mood board practice for target audience

vogue magazine:
The demographic profile of my chosen magazine target audience would look something like this. The age range for this magazine would be for the older group such as 18-30 this is because it is a sophisticated, professional magazine and would be boring for the younger age groups. The gender would be mainly for females because it is to do with fashion and modelling which females tend to have more or an interest than some males would. There regionality would be stereotypically in London or New York because these are the most successful/ business and most money made areas to work in fashion, this is why I added the business women to my mood board. There marital status could be mainly single because they could be young women trying to get a fashion career, however some could be married. The social status for this magazine is about a class A-B (Higher managerial or professional and Intermediate managerial or professional) this is because the magazine is expensive and a posh magazine so the higher/richer people would buy it, this is why I added the money image in my mood board.

The psychographic profile of my chosen magazine would be more of succeeders (rich) and going towards aspirers (want the luxury lifestyle). I think this because the class I chose was A-B and these are the higher classes so if they are a higher class they would be rich and have a lot of money and would want a luxury lifestyle because the magazine is more expensive than the majority of the magazines.

The lifestyle subsets group I would place my target audience for my magazine would be DINKS (double income, no kids) I think this because I believe they will have a single status and would be very interest in fashion to buy this magazine and also it is an expensive magazine. The hobbies the target audience would enjoy would be stereotypically shopping for big brands like ‘Chanel’, going to fashion events such as London fashion week, watching romance films like ‘Love actually’ and modelling programmes like ‘Americas next top model’ this is why I added the images to my mood board. The audience would have a very slim figure and have a healthy lifestyle by eating properly such as salads and drinking water; also they take care of themselves by wearing makeup etc. This is why I added these images to my mood board to reflect there hobbies and lifestyle. There subcultures would be business and posh people.
